About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Fabricator / Welder on behalf of a premier, well-established structural steel fabrication and erection contractor in British Columbia. Founded by industry veterans with decades of combined experience, our client specializes in delivering safe, high-quality, and complex metal structures across the province.

As a Fabricator / Welder in their expanding Fabrication Division, you will play a key role in assembling, fitting, and fabricating custom steel components and structural assemblies. This is an engaging, hands-on shop role ideal for a technician who takes pride in precision layout, blueprint interpretation, and high-standard welding.

Key Responsibilities

• Layout & Fabrication: Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine project specifications and tolerances.
• Fitting & Assembly: Measure, layout, cut, and fit steel components accurately; perform rigging and position heavy structural assemblies for final welding.
• Welding Operations: Perform high-quality Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) in accordance with shop standards and CWB specifications.
• Equipment & Tool Operation: Utilize shop equipment including plasma cutters, magnetic drills, grooving machines, CNC equipment, grinders, calipers, and precision measuring tools.
• Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough visual and dimensional quality checks to ensure finished assemblies strictly align with engineering drawings and client requirements.
• Shop Safety & Organization: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace while following all shop safety protocols.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 2+ years of proven hands-on experience as a Metal Fabricator / Fitter / Welder in a structural or custom steel shop.
• Welding Proficiency: Solid, hands-on experience with FCAW and GMAW processes. Experience operating a manual/handheld plasma cutter is required.
• Blueprint Reading: Strong capability to read and work independently from detailed fabrication blueprints and engineering schematics.
• Tools & Math: Proficient with layout tools, hand/power tools, precision calipers, and basic shop math/geometry for fabrication calculations.
• Certifications (Assets): CWB tickets, Red Seal Metal Fabricator (Fitter) certification, or Journeyman Welder credentials are strong assets.
• Bonus Skills: Valid forklift ticket/experience and exposure to basic machining or CNC mill operations are considered definite advantages.
